The name...

fuelforthoughts:

Mazer - Crowd-sourced problem solving

The name ‘Mazer’ comes from the Japanese word Mazeru, meaning to mix, and is a tremendously interesting move from the government that looks to use social media in a unique and effective way.

This wikipedia-style approach to problem solving works through three main stages; firstly, a government-appointed “creative director” poses a particular problem or question to the nation. Crowd-sourced answers to the problem are next submitted through social media (Twitter etc), and finally, an “idea auction” of the winning idea (from popular vote) is held for private-sector companies interested in taking it further and actually implementing it.

Truly ground-breaking stuff. It empowers the people, problems are solved faster through a wider pool of talent, and those with winning ideas have the chance to make some money out of it. Very interested to see how this pans out…

#SEM #Infographic :: The Top 20 Most Expensive Keywords in...

#SEM #Infographic :: The Top 20 Most Expensive Keywords in #Google #AdWords

"Ageism in the entrepreneurial community is a fairly recent development. Vivek Wadhwa points out that Ben Franklin discovered electricity at 46 and invented bifocals after age 70, Sam Walton built Walmart in his mid-40s and Ray Kroc built McDonald’s in his early 50s. Wadhwa finds it ironic Silicon Valley may scorn boomers, while its very icon of innovation, Steve Jobs, introduced the iMac, iTunes, iPod, iPhone and iPad all after age 45. “When he was young, he got kicked out of Apple,” and some of his greatest innovations came “with age and maturity,” Wadhwa says.”

- Boomers Who Start Businesses: The Next Great Generation Of Entrepreneurs (via courtenaybird)

digitalspark:

Uptake’s CEO Yen Lee likes to kid that he runs “the largest travel search company that no one’s heard of.” It’s not entirely a joke: At nearly five years old, Uptake has steadily built itself up to attract some 4 million unique visitors per month, which Lee says makes it the number three travel search website in terms of traffic behind TripAdvisor and Yahoo Travel. But the Menlo Park, Calif.-based company obviously does not have the same kind of name recognition as its larger competitors — at least not yet.

On Wednesday, Uptake made its first real public push with the debut of a Facebook app called Travel Q&A. Travel Q&A gathers information from your Facebook friends to help you find the best people from your existing friend circle to ask about certain travel destinations and activities. (viaMeet Uptake: The biggest travel site you’ve never heard of — Tech News and Analysis)
